hitfilm-pro-4By Kevin P. McAuliffe (doddleNEWS)

Welcome to doddleNEWS’ new tutorial series on HitFilm Pro. In this series, we’re going to get you up and running, and then we’ll move onto more advanced tutorials down the road.

I want to start out by pointing out that there are two versions of HitFilm. The Pro version, and the Free version. HitFilm Pro is also available for both Mac & PC. For this series, we’re going to be focusing on the Pro version.

Once you’ve made your purchase and downloaded the software, launch it to get to the main project selection window. What I love about this application is if you’re already up and running HitFilm Pro, you can just open a project (or start a new one), and get rolling right away. Or you can check out any of the featured tutorials, right from the main project selection window.

There’s something that’s very important for me to point out before we move on is that HitFilm Pro is both an editing application AND a compositing application. You have the ability to edit your work right here in the application, and then switch over to work on some advanced effects work.

Many people might think that HitFilm Pro is for kids making videos in their basements, but keep in mind that HitFilm has partnered with companies like Imagineer Systems to bring the power of Mocha, right to your HitFilm Pro timeline! In our next lesson, we’re going to create a new project and get started.
