A Look Back On Back To The Future Day!

Wednesday October 21, 2015 was the day Doc Brown and Marty arrive in the future in Back to the Future: Part 2 (1989), and to celebrate, everyone got in on the action. Everyone.

Not only were there merchandise tie-ins, like the Nike self-lacing shoes, but even government officials got in on the festivities, where Victoria, Australia police arrested Marty McFly for disturbing the space-time continuum, and Transport Canada issued a recall of the DeLorean DMC-12, because a problem with the Flux Capacitor might “increase energy consumption beyond 1.21 gigawatts. This could have disastrous consequences.”

Here are some of my favorite highlights from yesterdays festivities! Oh, and these are Friday’s Funny Feature worthy!

Honest Trailer

Let’s start off with the honest trailer for the film! Quite possibly one of my favorite webseries of all time (and a favorite of ours here at doddleNEWS, as evidenced by its frequent appearances for Friday’s Funny Feature) where they take a fun look at films and then humorously nitpick them to the ends of the earth. Like I said yesterday, Back to the Future is one of the most perfectly structured films so the only thing Screen Junkies could really make fun of is the similarities between all three films. Check that out below!

How It Should Have Ended

HISHE, another favorite of ours, has actually labelled this one How Back to the Future Should Have Ended or How Back to the Future: Part II Should Have Started. Seeing as how the first film ends and the second film begins is almost exactly the same (despite a recasting of the role of Jennifer between both films) it really works either way. To be honest, I don’t think they really thought through how time travel theoretically works in this but it’s still hilarious. Check that video out below:

Jimmy Kimmel Live

Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live as Marty McFly and Doc Brown where they talked about the advances in the past 30 years. Needless to say, Marty and Doc Brown were very underwhelmed by the lack of hoverboards and flying cars while understandably grossed out by the idea of people watching the show on their phones on the toilet. Check that video out here:

Afterwards, Michael J. Fox sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to talk about the upcoming self-lacing shoes and his foundation, the making of Back to the Future, and his action figure. Watch those videos below:

The one thing I loved about Back to the Future day is the fact that we should stop seeing those fake memes on Facebook about “today being the day Marty and Doc Brown arrive in the future” with the date photoshopped.
