This morning at 9:00 AM (Los Angeles time), Adobe updated and released updates for:

  1. Adobe Premiere Pro CC
  2. Adobe After Effects CC
  3. Adobe Audition CC
  4. Adobe Media Encoder CC
  5. Adobe Character Animator (beta)

I’ve had the opportunity to work with these new versions for the last couple of weeks, in preparation for two live webinars today, so here are my reactions.

Adobe has three “themes” for this update:

  1. The Power to Create
  2. Seamless Collaboration
  3. Streamlined Workflow

As with past updates, Adobe continues to focus on Premiere as the hub of their media applications. That trend continues with more features, or more controls, from other applications migrating into Premiere.

This is not to say that these other apps, such as Audition, are going away. Rather, its a recognition by Adobe that many editors only know one application – Premiere – and they either don’t have the time or the interest in learning more. So, if editors won’t migrate to other applications, Adobe chose to migrate key features of these other applications into Premiere.

I don’t necessarily disagree with this idea, however, Adobe needs to be really, really careful that Premiere not fill up with so many features as to be unusable. So far, with this release, they’ve struck a really nice balance between adding features without making the interface overly complex or chaotic.
