Actor Alden Ehrenreich has been cast as the new Han Solo – ending months of speculation.
Numerous reports, including Deadline, have confirmed the news that Disney owned Lucasfilm has signed the Hail, Caesar! star to appear in the 2018 standalone movie.
On May 4th (Star Wars Day), co-director Chris Miller tweeted a picture of the character’s iconic blaster gun:

Ehrenreich, who impressed in the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! and Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, will play a younger version Han Solo who was previously portrayed by Harrison Ford in Episodes IV, V, VI and VII.
While the Star Wars ‘Story’ films are officially standalone pictures, it is highly likely that the 26-year-old actor will play Solo in multiple movies. Almost nothing is known about the story other than it will be set before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV (1977).
Following the success of The Force Awakens (2015), which grossed over $2 billion worldwide, the part was one of the most coveted in Hollywood. Young stars such as Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) were also considered for the role.
Han Solo: A Star Wars Story will hit screens on May 25, 2018.
