Canon Releases Huge Firmware Update For C300 Cameras

Last month at the 2016 NAB New York show, Canon previewed a new firmware update that will give both the the Cinema EOS C300 and C300 MK II cameras new features and give far greater cinematic flexibility to camera operators. That update is now available for all C300 users.

There have been several user request and Canon has opened up creative control for Canon C300 and MK II users to have greater control over the platform. The main upgrade here is shutter angle control… With Shutter Angle Priority, the way the camera behaves has been adjusted to give camera operators the ability to maintain a constant shutter angle, regardless of changes to any other camera settings.

The next update to both cameras is improved WFT-E8A support. The E8A is Canon’s latest wireless adapter and the firmware upgrade allows the C300 cameras to use the E8A to connect wirelessly to local area networks via wifi with transfer speeds of up to 433 MBps. Users will be able to transfer files to an FTP server and will be able to use the E8A at distances up to 492 feet away line of sight. The WFT-E6A remote is also still supported.

The Canon C300 MK II will also get support for the EVF-V70 OLED Electronic viewfinder, along with Zebra support at 65% or less. Camera operators can adjust zebra settings beginning at 5% in adjustable steps of +/- 5% to 100%.

The EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera (EF-Mount) updates will allow various functions such as support for the Canon EVF-V70 OLED Electronic Viewfinder, WFT-E8 Wireless File Transmitter, Shutter Angle Priority, support for Zebra range at 65 percent or below, 2K Crop Audio Recording, Built-In Mic Audio off, and Peripheral Illumination Correction when using the new EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens.
  2. The EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera (PL-Mount) updates will allow various functions such as support for the Canon EVF-V70 OLED Electronic Viewfinder, WFT-E8 Wireless File Transmitter, Shutter Angle Priority, support for Zebra range at 65 percent or below, 2K Crop Audio Recording, and Built-In Mic Audio off.
  3. The EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera (EF-Mount) updates will allow various functions such as support for the WFT-E8 Wireless File Transmitter, Shutter Angle Priority, Grip Zoom Function when using CINE-SERVO 17-120mm EF-mount, CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm EF-Mount and COMPACT SERVO 18-80mm lenses, Auto Iris and Push Iris when using CINE-SERVO 17-120mm EF-mount, CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm EF-Mount and COMPACT SERVO 18-80mm lenses and Peripheral Illumination Correction when using the new EF 24-105mm f/4L II USM lens.
  4. The EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera DAF (EF-Mount)updates will allow various functions such as support for the WFT-E8 Wireless File Transmitter,  Shutter Angle Priority,  Dual Pixel CMOS AF (DAF) when using CINE-SERVO 17-120mm EF-Mount and COMPACT SERVO 18-80mm lenses, Grip Zoom Function when using CINE-SERVO 17-120mm EF-mount, CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm EF-Mount and COMPACT SERVO 18-80mm lenses, Auto Iris and Push Iris when using CINE-SERVO 17-120mm EF-mount, CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm EF-Mount and COMPACT SERVO 18-80mm lenses and Peripheral Illumination Correction when using the new EF 24-105mm f/4L  IS II USM lens.
  5. The EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera (PL-Mount)updates will allow various functions such as support for the WFT-E8 Wireless File Transmitter and Shutter Angle Priority.
