DJI Makes Drones Social With Updated Discover App

DJI Discover appBy James DeRuvo (doddleNEWS)

If you love to fly your drone but hate to fly alone, then DJI’s new DJI+ Discover App is for you. No longer just for browsing and buying DJI gear, the new Discover app now has a social aspect to it which enables drone pilots to get together to not only help each other fly, but to even collaborate.

DJI Discover appThe heart of the DJI+ Discover app is that drone pilots can find fellow professionals to collaborate or refer aerial imaging projects with, of to simply get together because you share the passion for flying your DJI drone.

Maybe you need help getting a shot that you’re not comfortable making at your current level, or maybe you want to help teach others to get the most out of that Phantom 4, then the Nearby section of the Discover app is great for that. It searches your GPS coordinates to let you know who is flying near you, or in countries like the UK, Germany, Spain and Australia.

The social portion of the app doesn’t stop there either, as it gives users access to the DJI Forums, where they can join the conversation on hot topics, share hints and tips to get more out of your DJI drones, and merely to share your work through Showcase.

DJI Discover appThe app will also help users to keep informed on upcoming DJI events including new pilot experiences, Workshops, and events. Users can find out more about DJI products by giving them a test fly in augmented reality. That’s a nice feature if you want to practice virtually with a product to see how it may handle, or if you’re thinking about upgrading to a higher model and you want to experience the different features to decide if it’s worth pulling the trigger on.

When you’re ready, you can go online shopping through the app itself and get notified of DJI promotions, as well as products not only from the company, but also third party accessories to improve the flight experience.

But I think the real killer feature is the social aspect. Many times I would love to fly my Phantom, but I just don’t want to go out and fly alone, and getting social is pretty cool.

Pros will be able to parlay it into more jobs through referrals. Your drone could have a feature that someone needs, but only for one time. So why not find someone who has one and outsource that one shot to them? It’s a win-win for everyone!

The updated app is free add available now through iTunes Apple Store or Google Play. For more information, visit DJI.com.
