A bunch of news has hit this week! Star Wars: Episode IX casting news, The Flash film has been delayed, a Game of Thrones actor is rumored to play James Bond, along with some Doctor Who and Marvel Studios news. First up, Mark Hamill talks Star Wars 9!
Mark Hamill Confirms He’s in Star Wars 9
Luke Skywalker may have met his end in Star Wars: The Last Jedi but that doesn’t mean Mark Hamill won’t appear in Star Wars: Episode IX. The actor took to Twitter and confirmed his involvement in the upcoming movie. Here’s what he tweeted:
I mention keeping my #StarWars opinions to myself & what happens? It triggers an avalanche of questions about the next one! All can is yes, I’m in it. Other than that, just consider it: EPISODE NEIN COMMENT.

The obvious way for the character to appear would be as a force ghost in the same way Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda have in the original trilogy. Another possibility is him appearing in a flashback rather than as a force ghost but I find that possibility less likely. A more intriguing question is if he is a force ghost, will he be appearing to Rey or to Kylo Ren as well.
The Flash Movie Delayed Again
At this point it feels like a Flash film will never get made. The amount of writers and directors that have been attached and then left are numerous and the number of times the release date has been pushed rivals that of Channing Tatum’s Gambit. Well, the movie has been delayed yet again. According to Variety, the release date has been pushed to sometime in 2021 but this time it has nothing to do with any creative problems behind the scenes. Rather, Ezra Miller’s schedule with Fantastic Beasts takes precedence over The Flash and there was a calendar conflict. Other than that, things are surprisingly good to go for the movie which will use this time to tighten up the script.
Game of Thrones Actor Rumored for Next Bond
Grab your grain of salt and read on! From the headlines of British tabloid The Daily Mail, Game of Thrones star Richard Madden is being looked at to possibly replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond after the producers saw his work on the BBC’s Bodyguard.
There are a few things to keep in mind with this rumor. First of all, Craig hasn’t even begun filming the next James Bond movie, which just went through a director change, and while most people expect Bond 25 to be his swan song I doubt anyone is seriously being considered yet. Another point is that even if this is true, Bond 26 is likely not due until 2024 so there are some years between now and then for Eon to find their next 007. Madden could be a great pick and I prefer an up-and-coming actor rather than a bigger name like Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, or Tom Hardy that are constantly at the top of the list.
Doctor Who Showrunner Would Love to Have J.K. Rowling Write an Episode
Doctor Who’s new showrunner Chris Chibnall confirmed at the New York Comic Con that J.K. Rowling had been in talks with previous showrunner Russell T. Davies during the David Tennant run to write an episode. That plan fell through but speaking with the Radio Times, Chibnall said that he would love to have her still write something. Here’s what he told the outlet.
If JK Rowling wants to have anything to do with ‘Doctor Who,’ please give her my phone number. I think she is one of our greatest living writers.
[…] I think ‘Harry Potter’ is an absolute transcendent piece of work and continues to be with the theatre play and with Fantastic Beasts. JK Rowling is a genius and if she ever even wants to see what we do on Doctor Who, you tell her from me, the doors are open.
Rowling’s work feels like it would be right at home in Doctor Who. She straddles the line between children’s story and more serious adult themes that would complement the show.
Black Panther 2 Signs Ryan Coogler
Surprising absolutely no one, Ryan Coogler has been signed to write and direct the follow-up to Black Panther. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Coogler is returning to write and direct even though the actual deal had been made a while ago. The movie did extraordinarily well at the box office with $1.3 billion worldwide making it the most successful Marvel film to date not titled Avengers. There’s still no announcement on when the movie will premiere but it’s likely to be sometime in 2021.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Production Start Pushed
Some more Marvel news! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was set to go before cameras before Disney fired James Gunn and stalled the entire Marvel production. That left the director’s chair open which still hasn’t been filled and put the 2020 release date in doubt. Now Production Weekly is reporting that the production start date for the third Guardians film has been set for February 2021 which is a full two years after the movie was on track to film. If true, that means we shouldn’t expect a new Guardians movie until February 2022 at the earliest.
So a few films were pushed to later production start dates while other films seem to be right on track. Black Panther seems to be in good hands and I cannot wait to see the final film of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
