The straight-to-home-video market never fails to deliver gobsmacking surprises.
Just as Hollywood is recovering from the release of knock-off sequel Raging Bull 2, aka The Bronx Bull, comes the news that Arnold Schwarzenegger-fueled guilty pleasure Kindergarten Cop is getting the same treatment.
And if that wasn’t enough, Dolph Lundgren, yes the Russian guy from Rocky IV, is taking over baby sitting duties from Schwarzenegger.
The original 1990 movie saw Arnie, at the height of his fame, reunite with Twins director Ivan Reitman for another fish-out-of-water comedy.
And despite some bad reviews, the film was a box office hit grossing over $200 million from a $15 million outlay.
Kindergarten Cop 2, which is currently shooting in Vancouver, is being directed by bargain bucket serial offender Don Michael Paul, who has previously helmed cinematic disasters Jarhead 2 and Tremors 5.
The story centers on Lundgren’s undercover detective who is tasked with recovering a hard drive which was stolen from the Federal Witness Protection Program.
The script has been written by American Pie 2 scribe David H. Steinberg, ensuring that Lundgren will have a plethora of lame jokes which he will no doubt deliver in a typically monotone fashion.
Lundgren’s career has received somewhat of a resurgence following parts in Sly Stallone’s The Expendables franchise.
The action star’s on-screen persona infamously resembles little of the man himself – the actor holds degrees in chemical engineering and a black belt in karate.
Expect to see Kindergarten Cop 2 sometime next year, as the straight-to-home-video market is notoriously good at producing crap at an astonishing rate.
