With loads of news about the television side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe being released at the New York Comic Con — including the surprise casting of Sigourney Weaver in The Defenders — there is some new information about the filmic side.
At the comic convention, Blastr (via Movie Web) had a chance to ask Evangeline Lilly about the upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp. She expressed her enthusiasm for the part and then revealed that while she won’t be in Avengers: Infinity War, she will appear in the fourth film. Here’s the reason why:
“I’m excited because its essentially going to be, um, the origin of the Wasp. Of course, we’re going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle, and put on the suit, and fly about, and do her thing. Following that one, there’s an Avengers series coming out, I believe its a two parter, and, um, the Wasp won’t be in the first part, she’ll be in the second part because they want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man and the Wasp.”
We know that Avengers: Infinity War and the currently untitled fourth Avengers film will be shooting back-to-back, so it is likely that Lilly will be suiting up for Avengers 4 in the Wasp costume before she makes her premiere in Ant-Man and the Wasp. As difficult as it must have been for Marvel to plan out the MCU up to this point, I think this is the first time the films will be shot out of order.
Along with Ant-Man and the Wasp, another film that will probably shoot after the two Avengers film, but will be released between them is Captain Marvel. I’ve suspected that the character of Carol Danvers will be introduced in Avengers: Infinity War, but before she gets her superpowers. There’s an element of trying to connect all the Avengers characters to each other, so the easiest way to add Danvers is to introduce her in the third film.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will premiere in theaters on July 6, 2018, Avengers: Infinity War lands on May 4, 2018, and the currently untitled Avengers 4 will hit theaters on May 03, 2019.
