Contest: Make a Music Video for They Might Be Giants, Win Red Giant Software

By James DeRuvo (doddleNEWS)

The latest contest to try your skills out on comes from Red Giant Software, who has teamed up with the indie rock group They Might Be Giants (no relation). The group wants a music video for their next hit single and it could be yours! Not only that, but you could win just about everything that Red Giant makes.

Talented people of the world. They Might Be Giants’ new album I Like Fun and world tour is coming and we are kicking things off with a video contest open to all for the lead track “I Left My Body.” This is the song. It’s really good! – They Might Be Giants contest announcement

Details of the contest are as follows. They Might Be Giants will be looking for three contest winners who have crafted a music video based on their lead single I LEFT MY BODY from the new TMBG album “I Like Fun.” TMBG wants filmmakers to take the concept of the song and make it their own, avoiding the conventional “see say” style of music video, but to embrace the idea the music is conveying and running with it. “Please make it beautiful, bold, stylish, contemporary, psychedelic, mind-bending,” the announcement continues. “Beauty is often persuasive. Transparency effects are nice, startling and beautiful imagery is nice, motion graphics can be exciting. Live action, animation, puppetry, multi-media—anything is possible and all new ideas welcome.”

The contest goes on to say that if the entry makes an attempt at humor, that it should be VERY dead pan. The deader the better.

Additionally, band members John and John aren’t interested in being the subject of the video, nor any other representations of the band They Might Be Giants. They want all imagery to be original, with no copyrighted images.

Submissions must be posted privately in 1080p HD to Vimeo and then notify the contest via email with the link and password to Include all your personal details including name, email address and phone number so they can contact you should your entry be chosen.  TMBG will also send contestants a high res audio copy of I Left My Body to work with by signing up at their website here.

Judging will be done by American Hip Hop Artist Open Mike Eagle.

The grand prize winner will receive fame and exposure with the winning video being highlighted on the TMBG World Tour, plus $3000 and a complete set of Red Giant Software Tools (prize value of $6,694). The two runner ups will receive $1,000 plus a complete set of Red Giant Software Tools (total prize value: $4,694).

If this sounds like something that you’d love to do, and really, who hasn’t wanted to direct a music video, then Ryan Connolly has some good tips on creating one over at Film Riot:

Deadline for the I Left My Body music video contest is March 1, 2018. Within a few days of the deadline, the band promises to post the winning entry on their YouTube channel, as well as the band’s website at
