POTENTIAL AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON SPOILERS AHEAD!
For those of you having a hard time reading the biographies, here they are (via MovieWeb):
Programmed by the combined geniuses of Tony Stark & Bruce Banner and imparted with the ability to fly, project intense energy beams and change the density of his form, the Vision has proved himself a worthy hero, aiding the Avengers in their struggle against the evil A.I. Ultron.
First discovered as a simple computer program hidden among the ruins of the Chitauri invasion of New York, the being known as Ultron soon completed its development into a sophisticated artificial intelligence after experimentation by Tony Stark. Ultron’s first shocking ultimatum upon gaining consciousness was to declare the human race its enemy. Setting out to exterminate all life on the planet, the unstable and emotional Ultron seeks to upgrade its mechanical body to an ultimate, unstoppable form. With an army of robotic drones and the ability to enter and corrupt any computer network, Ultron will stop at nothing to see humanity wiped out.
That’s an interesting twist on the character for Avengers: Age Of Ultron; the original Ultron was created by Ant-Man, and had no alien origins. Vision, meanwhile, was a creation by Ultron in the comics, who eventually turns on him and teams up with The Avengers to defeat the foe. This is also the first direct connection I’ve heard of to the original Avengers film, as opposed to Ultron being a reaction to the fallout from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
How Banner and Stark create Vision is an interesting mystery, however. The character’s powers border on magical, and if I’m allowed to guess, I think the Avengers decide to fight fire with fire, turning to the AI Stark has always relied on, J.A.R.V.I.S., to take on Ultron. I’m not the first to theorize that, but it seems to be the likeliest scenario. And of course, Paul Bettany voices J.A.R.V.I.S. and plays Vision.
Avengers: Age of Ultron premieres in theaters May 1, 2015.
