Any one who is a big fan of Game of Thrones is also a big fan of Peter Dinklage and his character Tyrion Lannister. Dinklage is a fantastic actor, and if you haven’t seen some of his earlier works, I highly encourage you to watch The Station Agent (2003).
Now Variety has discovered that the actor is in talks to join Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, due to the fact that Game of Thrones moved its 8th season shoot from summer to fall, which created an opening in Dinklage’s schedule. This isn’t the first time he has joined a Marvel film, having previously played Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but that was part of the Fox X-Men series which isn’t connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What we don’t know is who the actor will be playing, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. One of the first suggestions is the character M.O.D.O.K. (Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing), but that has more to do with Dinklage’s size than anything else. Plus, a Captain America writer said he’d love Dinklage to play M.O.D.O.K. , way back in 2011.
Deadpool creator Robert Liefeld tweeted his own speculation:
Peter Dinklage/PIP Makes ALL THE SENSE!! pic.twitter.com/SNegWRiUha

It should be noted that Liefeld actually has no involvement with the upcoming Avengers films, so his guess is as good as anyone else’s. Pip the Troll is one of Adam Warlock’s antagonists and played a part in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, which Avengers: Infinity War is based on, so it is actually a pretty good guess. However, from all I’ve heard, the character Adam Warlock won’t be in the live action adaptation, so it might not be Pip.
Bleeding Cool points out that Dinklage did wear half the costume of the Marvel cosmic character Eternity on an episode of Saturday Night Live back in 2016. That character also played a role in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, so perhaps he was hinting at the role all the way back then.
Since everyone else is making their own guesses, I’m going to throw in something that is almost certainly wrong but my reasons may be correct. I have a sneaking suspicion that Dinklage could be playing Uatu the Watcher. The reason for that is he kind of has the right look for the cosmic immortal, plus my guess is his casting has more to do with what we can expect from Phase 4 and beyond of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Right now all the guesses have to do with the Infinity War storyline rather than something directors Joe and Anthony Russo hinted at. Avengers 4 isn’t meant as the second part of Infinity War, but rather a setup for what happens next in the MCU — who better to say cryptic things about what’s to come than the Watcher?
Avengers: Infinity War will premiere in theaters on May 4, 2018, followed by the untitled Avengers 4, which will come out a year later on May 3, 2019.
