RØDE Introduces Mobile Interview Kit for the iPhone

Doing interviews on camera requires mic-ing your subject to get good audio. But if you’re on camera with the interviewee, it’s often difficult to pick up both voices with one microphone. That’s where RØDE’s Mobile Interview Kit can come in real handy.

The RØDE Mobile Interview Kit, including one SC6-L and two smartLav+ lavalier microphones, is the perfect solution for effortless dual audio recording on the go, using your iPhone® or iPad®. Designed with run-and-gun interviews in mind, the all-in-one package ensures a quick and easy setup, and flexible recording options for crystal clear audio. – RØDE.com

Moreover, if you caught the word stereo, that means that the SC6-L provides two different tracks for both conversations. So one subject will be on the left track, the other will be on the right. This is important because you’ll have to set the tracks properly on your NLE in post. You can also combine them into a single stereo recording in the app settings of RØDE’s own RØDE Reporter app, but is also compatible with FiLMiC Pro, and many other audio recording apps.

Designed to work with the lightning port on any iOS device, the RØDE  SC6-L comes bundled in the SC6-L  Mobile Interview Kit, which has the unit itself, two RØDE smartLAV+ lavaliere microphones with enough spare cable to mic two subjects and record them both at once.

If you need more length, an SC1 extension cable can add an additional 20 feet to that distance. Speaking of additional adapters and cables, being TRRS centric for stereo mic recording, if your needs require a boom or on camera VideoMic Pro connection for one channel, users will need to grab an SC4 or SC7 adapter cable to convert the connection.

RØDE doesn’t come right out and give pricing and availability, but I do see the kit online listed online for around $230, and about $75 for the adapter itself. The smartLav+ lavaliere mics run about $75 a peace. That seems to be in line with RØDE’s other microphone kits. The RØDE Reporter app is a free download in the iTunes App store.

Availability TBD. For more information, visit RODE.com
