SanDisk Extreme UHS-1 MicroSD fastest ever

4K. HDR. 360 Video. 8K. The more processor heavy our content creation becomes, the larger and faster our media cards have to be to keep up and write it. So SanDisk is working to stay ahead of the power curve with a new microSD memory card that’s custom built for these applications. And it’s the fastest one to date.
“The card is able to reach this unprecedented speed by leveraging Western Digital proprietary technology,” Western Digital says. “The card will also feature the A2 specification to help launch and load apps at blazing speeds.”
Being spacious with 400GB of storage space, and fast with read/write speeds of up to 160 MBps/90 MBps respectively, the SanDisk Extreme 400GB memory card is 50% faster than it’s current UHS-I microSD card.
Moreover, the 400GB SanDisk Extreme memory card is tailor made for the Android platform, as SanDisk says that its A2 speed specification makes it easier to launch and load apps faster. So if you’re a mobile filmmaker who has gone rogue and use your Android phone to shoot with FiLMiC Pro, SanDisk says your 4K video will be the best it can be.
The price of this memory card, isn’t going to be cheap though, as the current SanDisk Ultra 400GB microSDXC UHS-I card sells for around $190 after a price 40% price drop. That’s leading those in the know to speculate that the new Extreme variant will likely sell for around $300 a piece. Ouch.
If you’re recording 360 using the GoPro Fusion, that’s going to dent your wallet, to be sure. As for iPhone users, well, you already know that Apple refuses to give you an additional storage option. You should’ve just bought a larger phone. But at least you can use the iXPand to make room.
And for those still rocking’ the DSLR or mirrorless camera wanting to know where their speed bump is coming, SanDisk also promised their working on PCIe enabled SD cards that can support not only faster speeds in 4K, but also 8K. What do they know that we don’t?
