Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiered in theaters, fans have taken note that there were shots in the trailers and officially released photographs which didn’t make it into the final cut.
Over the Easter weekend, a trailer for these deleted scenes in The Force Awakens premiered in advance of the film’s April 5th DVD/Blu-ray release. The only thing that makes a Star Wars fan like me happy is more Star Wars, so I’m dying to see these scenes! Check out the trailer here:
Meanwhile, the fine folks at Uproxx received an advanced copy of the Blu-ray, and have revealed which six deleted scenes from the film have been included in the release.
Finn and the Villager
Early on in the film when Kylo Ren and his stormtroopers invade Jakku, Finn comes across a fleeing villager. They both stop and stare each other down for a moment, but then Finn allows the villager to run off.
This scene would have introduced Leia far earlier in the film, just after Kylo kills Lor San Tekka, and takes Poe Dameron captive. Leia is given information on Poe and BB-8’s dissappearance on Jakku, at which point she says, “Never underestimate a droid.”
X-Wings Prepare for Lightspeed
Of all the scenes that I want to see, this one is one of the two I’m looking most forward to. After the Millennium Falcon crashes onto Starkiller Base ,we would have been treated to a squadron role call (like the “Red Five, standing by” scene from the original Star Wars) before the fighters blast off into hyperspace.
Kylo Searches The Falcon
The other scene I’m dying to see is Kylo Ren on the Millennium Falcon. After the starship crashes into the snow on Starkiller Base, Kylo and his snowtroopers search the ship for occupants. While the snowtroopers search the ship, Kylo enters the Falcon’s cockpit and says, “Han Solo.”
Snow Speeder Chase
This scene made it into the novelization, but was cut from the film. Apparently the scene is a fairly short segment from a larger scene, and only shows Finn shooting at some snowtroopers while Rey pilots the snow speeder.
Finn Will Be Fine
The last we saw of Finn in The Force Awakens, the character was left in a coma after battling Kylo Ren. We don’t know if he will come out alright or not, but in this scene, a smiling Doctor Kalonia tells Rey that, “You’re friend’s gonna be just fine.”
The Missing Seventh Scene
According to an interview by The Independent with the film’s editors, Mary Jo Markey and Maryann Brandon, there were apparently going to be seven deleted scenes. The trailer for the deleted scenes did show Maz Kanata, Han, Chewie, and Finn battling stormtroopers in Maz’s tavern, which looks like it will be included in the digital release.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released on DVD/Blu-ray on April 5, 2016.
