If there is one movie that defines my childhood, it would be Star Wars… I mean, c’mon, let’s be serious about that. Second to that though, I had The Goonies and like everyone else I knew, I wanted to be a Goonie too — usually with disastrous results.
One of these days I’ll tell you about the fire I started in my parents backyard trying to build a torch to go exploring… but I digress.
Since the 80’s, we’ve been patiently waiting for Goonies 2 and there have been a few rumblings about it here and there where we follow the children of the original. Sadly, those rumours come and gone over the years but earlier this month, Richard Donner again spoke about the possibility of making a sequel to the original film with the original cast.
Now we hear who developed the story for it– and it’s none other than Steven Spielberg himself! TMZ caught up with Donner and asked him for an update to what’s going on with the sequel. Here’s what he said:
Hopefully we’re going to get this done, period. Spielberg came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You don’t do it without him, and he came up with another storyline and he’s right on.

Personally, I’d love it if they bucked that trend and sent the original cast on the adventure. Have these characters come together and relive their adventurous childhood that they’ve forgotten. There’s a lot of nostalgia around this film and I hope they can capture that magic some 30 years later.
